Violet Flammegarn
Flammegarn (yarn died with small white dots) has roots in knitting history. This was a historical Scandinavian way of dyeing yarn for socks, where the skein was tied with reeds before dyeing. It typically was dyed blue or red.
The resulting fabric has the feel of a glint of light, and is interesting to the eye. However, it is solid enough for texture, cables or lace.
Today I bring the tradition up to date with modern dyes and yarns. Lilac is a medium-to-soft purple with blue undertones. This one tends to sell out quickly. In my town many of the creative women prefer purples such as this!
Why Oddball? Looking at it now, as I load the skein, I can not remember why I put it in the Oddball pile. It weighs over 100gm and the color is great. I am guessing that there may be a knot in the skein. Either that, or I held it out for me to knit with it (in which case it's perfect and you get a discount). Maybe there's a knot, maybe some spinning imperfections that would require joining yarn ends. Plenty of yarn, even for a guy's foot... if he wanted purple, that is.
